Touching story today. In 2009, Zach Sobiech was diagnosed with a terminal form of bone cancer that mostly affects children and teens. I don’t know how most of us would have reacted to that news, but Zach turned to music. He wrote this song called Clouds. It’s a song of hope, and it’s one we all need to hear. Zach died yesterday, but through this song and his efforts to find a cure, his memory lives on. Check it out, and then donate to the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund.

Free music Friday is back, this time with some great Indie southern rock from an up and coming artist, John Williams Hayes. Hayes is from down in Mobile, Alabama, though now he and his band are banging around Nashville and making some noise. Going to be big one day (he’s already got Mark “Sparky” Matejka of Lynyrd Skynyrd performing with him in this video.) Enjoy the song, and check out the rest of his music here.

As I’ve said several times, The Head and The Heart’s self-titled album is the best record of 2011, hands down. Last night, I went to one of their concerts here in Boston. It was amazing. Here are three of my favorite songs from the record. But seriously, buy the whole album. Enjoy!
This song sorta encapsulates how I feel sometimes living in Boston.
Probably my second favorite cut from the album.
And this is my favorite song from the album.

As I have reiterated several times, The Head And The Heart, debut album by the eponymous band of the same name, is in my estimation the best record to come out all of last year. It’s a fantastic piece of work. Down in the Valley is probably the most famous cut from the album, but here’s another one I know you will enjoy. The album is best enjoyed as a whole though, so you should check it out. Buy a copy here.

Great song by one of the finest contemporary bands out there. Hipsters, take notice. These guys pretty much define your ethos.

Given the news lately, this seemed the most appropriate video for this week . . .

Continuing with the religion theme, here’s a haunting tune from Regina Spektor that goes right to the heart of mankind’s schizophrenic relationship with God.
